Tottenham want more than DOUBLE what Chelsea offered for Luka Modric on Wednesday night.
The London Evening Standard says Tottenham will not sell Modric to Chelsea under any circumstances and hope to scare off other suitors by putting a staggering £45million price tag on his head.
Chelsea had an opening bid of £22m rejected yesterday afternoon, but the club were prepared to raise their offer to £30m to sign the midfielder and believed it would be enough to secure his signature.
Sources close to Modric in Croatia believe Spurs will sell for the right price, however Standard Sport understands they won't do a deal with their London rivals.
That still leaves Manchester United and Manchester City in the frame. However, Tottenham, who publicly insist he is not for sale, value the Croatia international at £45m and will not listen to any offers below that figure - a record for the club.

Luka Modric wants to stay in London. The London Evening Standard says Modric has been on their list for some time, but his performance in Tottenham's 2-1 Premier League defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in April is believed to have impressed billionaire owner Roman Abramovich and convinced him to make the necessary funds available. Manchester United also want Modric but he is determined to stay in London, especially as he is close friends with fellow Croatian players at Spurs, Vedran Corluka and Niko Kranjcar. Chelsea, who are expected to appoint Guus Hiddink as their manager in the next fortnight, would be prepared to make him one of their highest-paid players and double his salary to £100,000 a week.

Lens defender Raphael Varane is unsure about a move to Manchester United.
But Varane, 18, also has other options and feels it is important he carries on playing.
He said: "I know I have the choice. I can sign for a foreign club and move abroad, or I could join another club in Ligue 1.
"What interests me is playing regularly and so I have to think carefully and go to a club that will allow me to progress."
Fergie has just signed Phil Jones from Blackburn and has another youngster in Chris Smalling so United seem well covered in that position.

Tottenham legend Gary Lineker says it's crucial they keep hold of Luka Modric.
Lineker spelt what he sees as the potential consequences of selling the star.
He said: "This is a defining moment where we will find out what will happen in the future for the club.
"These are really testing times for Tottenham. It's crunch time for them.
"Once you become a club that loses your best players it becomes awfully difficult to continue to compete and try to get back into the Champions League.
"If you lose someone like Modric he will be difficult to replace and for me, the club are now either going to go on to be one of the big clubs or one of the ones that are in the pack behind. If they do drop into that pack, they'll probably be there for a long time."

The Sun says Spurs are keeping tabs on Mexican Torres, 18, who replaced Javier Hernandez at Chivas.
Torres, rated at £4million, has six goals in 19 games.
Manchester United also followed Torres at the recent Toulon tournament.
