Hello All,

First of all, I’ll be honest with you guys; I’m a bit disappointed about my results in the Middle East. I felt that I was prepared and ready to win matches, but instead, I lost at both events fairly early. Now, with that being sad, I’m sure I’ll work even harder and try to do even more to be able to improve.

Even though my result has not been the one I hoped for, I must tell you that my experience in both Dubai and Doha have been great. My team and I have been staying at the amazing Grand Habtoor Resort. The owner made sure we got the best rooms, overlooking the water. My mother was there too and she enjoyed it very much. The resort itself is absolutely breathtaking; I think it is the most beautiful hotel I’ve ever stayed at during my career.

I was one of the top 4 seeds in Doha but unfortunately, I lost to Daniela Hantuchova in the 1st round. After winning in Thailand, Daniela has a lot of confidence and has definitely been playing some good tennis lately. She beat Vera Zvonareva in the semifinal in Thailand, snapping Vera’s two-year winning streak in Pattaya. This is of course not to say that I haven’t had my chances, but she played well.

After my loss in Doha, I flew back to Minsk. I feel that I just need to get away from tennis for 3 or 4 days. I recently bought my own apartment in Minsk, so I have been decorating it and making it all cozy and homey. It has been a lot of fun and it helped me take my mind off tennis a bit.

I’ll be flying out to California in a few days, where I’ll meet my coach, Sam. I’ll be practicing and getting ready for Indian Wells in Calabasas.

I’m really excited to confirm that I’ll be playing the NIKE Clash of Champions event in Eugene, Oregon. The event will be held at the University of Oregon’s new facility called the Matthew Knight Arena on March 8th, starting at 5:30PM. I’ll play a singles set against Maria Sharapova and we will play mixed doubles with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Serena Williams will also be there, but unfortunately, she won’t be able to play. If you guys live in Oregon, make sure you try and come out to see us; it should be a phenomenal event.

Part of the event’s proceeds will go to charities. I’m donating my portion to a children’s hospital in Minsk that treats kids with cancer.

I’ve to go now, it’s getting pretty late. I’ll check-in again from Calabasas.

Love,

Vika
